| I've been wondering what will happen if it's raining (God forbid) on the weekend that we're filming? Reschedule or put rain gear on ourselves and the equipment? |

Don't know about wet...
but here are tips for "too damed cold"...
Have water proof, quiet, coverings for the cameras...
they don't run at 100% once they get too cold...
also, have blow dryer on hand for the lens.
Keep all tapes in a bag or box, wrapped warm, in car or somewhere.
Bring coffee maker to location.
(oh hell, do this anyways, LOL)
Think the shots over and over and still over again right up to the day of shooting...have this thing in your head like it's already shot. This will help get it shot right as quickly as the actor's knowing their lines by heart.
Be liquid...be ready for anything.
Murphy likes to chase shoots, in my experience so far, so anything at all can and will happen.
Be on the offensive regarding changes...
not be offensive to changes, what I mean is that you should tackle them, don't let them tackle you.
As the director, people will be looking to you for answers to questions that you don't see coming.
Rest up. _________________ There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. The triumph of anything is a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, I hope that they are organized along the lines of the Mafia.

Oh...
and don't just listen to me.
As my film, "HG", comes closer and closer to being shot, at long last...
I'm just as terrified of how things will go as you must be on this short.
I've been told many times now...
"compromise",
"delegate",
"trust",
"don't back out or back down",
and look to Nike...

I don't know the capabilities of the HVX200 in cold weather, but I know the XL1S performed rather well in the near zero temperature of Anchorage. I didn't have any issues until we were out there for almost an hour, then it skipped once.
Just sucks that it has issues in low light. _________________ I don't belong here. |

Ok McClure outted me...LOL
I've got several ways/techniques of bringing footage from different cameras to a level playing field during the edits.
So you can mix XL1, XL2, DVX, HVX, whatever...together in the final edits without noticing.
Combinations of color correction, multipass video legalization, and just selecting the right format for the final before editing is key.
Cannont take DV to HD though...
but can easily use HD in a DV shoot.
Even got a dozen or so tricks that can be done in just such a situation. _________________ There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. Geoff, my VX-2000 is great in low light.
LW has a way of incorporating different cameras in post. But you'll have to ask him about the technical stuff
Thought I'd mention it... Just so you have an option for the Prey shoot. |
Sorry. I meant the XL1S has low light issues.
So I get to play with an HVX?????
I'm not sure if we'll have ours in time for the shoot. _________________ I don't belong here. |

Ah, ok.
Do you think we can pull of that dolly/crane shot around the car with the track you have? _________________ I don't belong here. |

3A - DOLLY CRANE DRIVER'S SIDE, AROUND REAR, TO PASS FRONT
Geoff, I don't foresee any problems with using the crane on the dolly, but I haven't physically been at the location to see how much space we have.
But, it's a straight track... the "going around the rear" part - could that be done by angling the track to the car?
If I remember correctly, the crane has a camera control for up and down motion, but the side to side is done with the tripod (tripod mounted crane).
LW - do you have curved track for your dolly?
A possible option is to mount the crane in the back of a pickup and drive around the car. We could deflate the tires a bit to smooth out the ride. _________________ http://www.americanmovieworks.com

LW... Thank you for all the good advice. As far as being terrified... YES, I am. I feel ridiculously unequal to the task of being the director, so I have demoted myself to assistant director. More later... hubby and I are cleaning the office where we'll shoot Father McDaniels study scene.
One more thing... as soon as my ftp folder is working again, I'll post a picture of the deserted road so that everyone can see how much room we'll have to work with. It might be too narrow, and if it is, Rigor Mortis Randy, the cemetery groundskeeper who knows all the local roads, can find us another.
Oh, and another thing... how many big of a generator will we need (how many kw's)? |
